  • Syringe Driver (CSCI) Training - Initial Workshop $65 Refresher Workshop $30

IMPORTANT NOTICE – Syringe Driver Training notice from Hospice NZ

Kia ora Age Residential Care Managers and Clinical Leads,
RE: Syringe Driver Competency Programme for Clinical staff
The Hospice New Zealand Syringe Driver Competency program was developed to provide healthcare professionals, including Registered Nurses, Doctors, Pharmacists, and Paramedics, with the necessary knowledge and skills to manage syringe drivers competently. Over the past four years, this course has been offered via a blended learning approach, with the online component, made available through Hospice Waikato’s PalEd platform, and the competency assessment workshop being delivered face-to-face by local Hospice educators and clinical nurse specialists. We are grateful to Hospice Waikato and their education team for making this online resource accessible, and to the many Hospice educators and clinical nurse specialists who have delivered the competency assessment workshop to thousands of learners across the country.
The online component of the course is no longer available for learners via PalEd, and it is currently being redeveloped by ‘Learning Works’ to be compatible with Hospice New Zealand’s online learning platform, the Knowledge Hub, where the Fundamentals of Palliative Care course is hosted. It is hoped that this new, updated course will be available to learners via the Knowledge Hub www.knowledgehub.hospice.org.nz by the end of January 2025. Thank you for your patience and understanding 😊

    Jacqui Swain

Education Programmes Manager Te Kahu Pairuri o Aotearoa – Hospice New Zealand

    Cranford Hospice’s Syringe Driver Training

Initial Syringe Driver training will now consist of up to 2 hours online learning, and a test that includes both theoretical aspect and drug calculation. Following the mandatory online learning and a Pass in the test, you will then need to attend a face-to-face workshop. We have scheduled this workshop to be able to support nursing rosters better, it is held from 11 am to 2.30 pm for each session. This workshop must be completed within 3 months of completing the online module, and the number of participants is limited 6 per workshop.

Refresher Syringe Driver training is also moving to a blended learning environment. The Refresher Course will now be a blended course with a 2-hour face-to-face workshop followed by a test that will be available on Cranford’s Moodle Platform instead of paper and pen. Access to Moodle will be enabled at the time of your booking confirmation. The online test must be attempted within 6 weeks of the Refresher training workshop. If not attempted within 3 months, the nurse must redo the workshop which will incur further costs.

NOTE: The online learning is not yet live – however bookings are open for all the Syringe Driver workshops.
