Cranford Hospice’s three retail stores are seeking Storeroom Assistants who are responsible for the flow of donated goods to the shop floor.
Storeroom assistants are responsible for receiving, unpacking, processing, organising, storing, packaging, and labelling donated goods for sale. They also help with waste disposal.
This is a great opportunity to work as part of a friendly team in a demanding but supportive environment. Training in merchandising, displaying and retail will be provided. An interesting and varied experience of voluntary work is guaranteed!
Time commitment
Ideally a minimum of 3.5 hours a week. The following shifts may be available:
Hastings Store
Monday to Friday: 9.45am to 1.15pm or 1pm to 4.30pm
Saturday: 10am to 2pm
Napier Store
Monday to Friday: 9.45am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm
Saturday: 9.45am to 2pm
Waipukurau Store
Monday to Friday: 10am to 1pm or 1pm to 4pm
Saturday: 10am to 1pm
Key tasks
- Greeting and thanking donors as they drop off goods at the storeroom.
- Receiving, sorting and preparing donated items.
- Undertaking minor repairs, cleaning and ironing as appropriate, to prepare for sale (keeping an eye out for antiques / makers marks / collectables).
- Pricing goods in accordance with retail policy and procedures.
- Distributing, storing and disposing of goods in accordance with retail policy and procedures.
- Recovery – tidy workspace ready for next shift and a space in the store.
- The security of goods in the Storeroom are is maintained.

- Flexible and adaptable to deal with different customers
- Reliable and honest
- Creative and able to use their own initiative
- Good communication skills.
- Adequate physical and cognitive abilities to ensure safety of yourself, and those around you when performing your role.
