Retail Assistant
About the role
Our four Cranford Hospice stores rely on volunteers to help create welcoming, well-run stores where donated goods can be turned into vital income for hospice care.
As a Retail Assistant, you’ll help with the day-to-day running of the store, including serving customers, operating the till, processing and displaying donated goods, and keeping the store looking welcoming and well stocked. You’ll also have opportunities to help promote Cranford Hospice and encourage customers to support our work through purchases, donations and raffles.
This is a varied role where you’ll work alongside a friendly team and meet a wide range of people in your local community. No previous retail experience is essential—training in retail, merchandising and the requirements of your role will be provided.
We ideally ask volunteers to commit to a minimum of 3.5 hours per week, although available shifts vary between stores.
Time commitment
Ideally, you will be able to commit to a minimum of 3.5 hours per week. Shifts available in our stores:
- Hastings—Monday to Friday, 9.45am–1.15pm OR 1–4pm. Saturday, 9.45am–2pm.
- Napier—Monday to Friday, 9.45am – 1.15pm OR 1pm-4pm. Saturday 9.45am – 2pm.
- Onekawa—Monday to Friday, 9.15am-12.15pm OR 12pm-4.15pm. Saturday, 9.15am-1.15pm.
- Waipukurau—Monday to Friday, 10am-1pm OR 1pm-4pm. Saturday, 10am-1pm.
What you’ll bring
We’re looking for people who:
- Enjoy meeting and helping people and providing friendly customer service
- Communicate confidently and work well as part of a team
- Are reliable, flexible and willing to get involved
- Have an eye for presentation, tidiness and attention to detail
- Are comfortable handling cash and operating a till, or keen to learn
- Are able to undertake some physical activity, including moving and handling donated goods
- Are interested in developing retail, display and merchandising skills
- Are committed to supporting the vision and values of Cranford Hospice
Previous retail or volunteering experience is welcomed but not essential. What’s most important is a positive attitude and a willingness to learn.
