Kitchen Volunteer

About the role

A warm meal can bring comfort, familiarity and a sense of care. As a Kitchen Volunteer, you’ll help ensure our patients receive meals in a safe, welcoming and supportive environment while assisting with the day-to-day operation of the hospice kitchen.

Working alongside our Cook, Housekeeper and wider care team, you’ll play an important role in helping patients and their families/whānau feel cared for during their time at Cranford Hospice.

Time commitment

Daily shifts available
Morning: 10.30am–1.00pm 
Evening: 5.00pm–7.00pm

Shift lengths may vary depending on hospice occupancy and kitchen requirements.

What you’ll bring

  • Checking with the Housekeeper before your shift to confirm volunteer support is required.
  • Assisting the Cook with food preparation and kitchen tasks as required.
  • Preparing meal trays and ensuring patient dietary requirements are followed.
  • Delivering meals to patient rooms and collecting trays after meals.
  • Maintaining high standards of food safety, hygiene and infection control.
  • Cleaning and sanitising kitchen equipment, trays, benches, crockery and cutlery.
  • Washing and sterilising dishes according to kitchen procedures.
  • Assisting with the handling of kitchen and laundry items as required.
  • Reporting any incidents or hazards to the Housekeeper or Cook on duty.
