News: Our Gazebo was yarn-bombed!

“From wonderful volunteers, staff, high schools, and even someone amazing in Australia, the response has been wonderful and we couldn’t be more grateful to those who were able to lend a hand.”

A huge thank you to everyone who has given their time, skills and wool to participate in the ‘Great HOT Yarn Bomb competition’ by the Hospice Occupational Therapist’s (HOT), headed by our very own Occupational Therapist Clare. We have received hundreds of knitted squares, crocheted squares and rosettes, tassels, pompoms and French knitting for our big ‘bomb’ challenge. From wonderful volunteers, staff, high schools, and even someone amazing in Australia, the response has been wonderful and we couldn’t be more grateful to those who were able to lend a hand.

Our design was created to highlight the Hawke’s Bay summer, and our very talented Hastings Store Manager Kim has recreated the stained glass windows above the patient rooms out of wool. On Saturday the 19th of October the Cranford gazebo was yarn bombed into a beautiful colourful display by the team here at Cranford.

The yarn will stay up on our gazebo until early next week so all the lovely people who were able to contribute can see the pieces all assembled together. Afterwards, the knitting will be repurposed and recycled and will be made into blankets, cushions, tea cozies to use.

Thank you so much to all those who have taken the time to create something for this yarn bomb. It was only made possible because of your efforts, and we are eagerly awaiting the results in the hopes of winning a prize sponsored by Cubro – watch this space.
