Serious Illness Conversation Guide

Serious illness conversations are an important part of person-centred care. This half-day workshop helps clinicians build confidence in having compassionate, meaningful conversations with patients and whānau using the Serious Illness Conversation Guide. 

You will learn how to: 

  • initiate serious illness conversations with confidence
  • explore patients’ fears, worries, goals, and priorities
  • discuss prognosis and uncertainty in a clear and compassionate way
  • support understanding and shared decision-making
  • respond effectively to difficult emotions and conversations. 

This workshop is suitable for clinicians wanting to strengthen their communication skills and feel more prepared to support patients and whānau through important care conversations.
