Life Review Volunteers
About the role
Life Review Volunteers help patients capture and preserve the stories, memories and experiences that matter to them.
Working alongside patients, volunteers listen to and record their memories, then transcribe and edit them to create a lasting legacy such as a life story book, letters to family and friends, or a eulogy. These personal keepsakes can be treasured by patients and their families and whānau.
This is a meaningful role for someone who enjoys listening to people and their stories and can build a trusting, respectful relationship with someone living with a life-limiting condition.
Volunteers receive full training and ongoing support from the Volunteer Coordinator, through supervision meetings and the Family Support Team.
What you’ll bring
- A person-centred, empathetic and non-judgemental approach.
- An interest in people and their stories.
- Strong active listening and communication skills.
- Comfort and sensitivity when spending time with people living with a life-limiting condition.
- Good computer literacy, including transcription and editing skills.
- The ability and willingness to learn and use recording devices and programmes.
- Your own computer and mobile phone.
- Reliability and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality.
- Respect for cultural diversity and different life experiences.
- A commitment to Cranford Hospice’s values and the wellbeing of patients and whānau.
