Group Grief Support

He whiri takirōpū

There’s no right way to feel and no set timeline for working through grief. While your family and friends are a vital part of getting through this time, a support group offers something different: companionship and understanding from others who know, firsthand, what living with grief is like.

Bereavement group programme

It’s common to want to hide our hurt from others, or to feel that our grief is too personal to share, too much for other people to hear. Sometimes what we’re carrying is guilt or anger rather than simple sadness. Left unspoken, these feelings can lead to isolation.

Talking about your experience—and listening to others talk about theirs—helps you see that what you’re feeling is a normal response to loss.

Our bereavement group progamme is facilitated by Rachael, a trained volunteer, who gently guides you through the grief process to help you process your own grief in safe and supportive environment.

You’re free to share your story in your own time, in an environment with no pressure to talk and no pressure to ‘move on’. You’re just as welcome to simply listen, and to hear how others are getting through each day.

What our bereavement group programme offers

  • A sense of belonging that eases the isolation grief can bring.
  • Support in working through the situations and problems grief creates.
  • The chance to begin healing by sharing your story and hearing others’.
  • Practical coping skills for the hardest days.
  • Strength and hope drawn from people who understand what you’re going through.
  • Friendships that often become some of the most meaningful in people’s lives.

“The bereavement group was definitely what I needed. I’ve been busy grieving for the kids, and I haven’t really had time to focus on me. The bereavement group gave me two hours where I could focus on what I needed. I also did the coffee group; they were such lovely people. It’s nice to connect with people who are going through what you’re going through. We’re all hurting and missing our loved one.” Katrina

Grief support group

We also facilitate an informal grief support group twice a month. It’s a chance to chat with others over a coffee, feel less alone and connect with people who understand. This group isn’t structured like the bereavement group programme, you simply come along when you can and you decide what you’d like to chat about.

This group is open to anyone experiencing grief—whether or not your loved one received care from Cranford Hospice.

When: First and third Tuesday of each month
Time: 10.30am–11.30am
Venue: No5 Café and Larder
RSVP: No need to book—please come along when it suits you
