Our new home has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the needs of patients, whānau, staff and the wider community—a future-ready space for care, connection and outstanding palliative care for generations to come.

Our new home has been thoughtfully designed to reflect the needs of patients, whānau, staff, and the wider community.
Set on a spacious site on Havelock Road in Hastings, the new hospice will bring together inpatient care, family support, community connection and education within a single purpose-built environment.
This is a future-ready home for Cranford Hospice, designed to expand our capacity, strengthen community services, and ensure we can continue delivering outstanding care for generations to come.
InPatient Unit care
Our new home will include:
- 14 patient rooms, with 10 operational from opening
- Ensuite bathrooms for every room
- Private outdoor spaces and garden access
- Space for whānau to stay, rest, and remain close
- A dedicated paediatric room, developed in partnership with Health New Zealand Hawke’s Bay
Community and whānau hub
The new hospice will create dedicated spaces for:
- day therapy and respite care
- counselling and family support services
- welcoming communal spaces
- an improved base for our Doctors and Community Nursing Team.
These welcoming communal spaces will provide comfort, connection and care beyond the inpatient setting.
Education and community outreach
Our new home will also strengthen palliative care across the region through:
- a dedicated education suite for training aged residential care staff, GPs, nurses and community providers
- improved spaces for our fundraising and volunteer teams.
A culturally grounded and environmentally responsive design
The new hospice has been designed to reflect the values of our community, with strong connections to culture, landscape, and wellbeing.
Set amongst generous open space and landscaping, the design maximises natural light, privacy and views across Hawke’s Bay, creating a peaceful sanctuary for patients, whānau and staff.
Project timeline
With resource consent now granted, Cranford Hospice is progressing through:
- detailed design
- building consent
- public tender process.
Construction is expected to begin in early 2027, with the goal of opening our new home by Christmas 2028.
