Sharing good news for ‘Sunshine Sonya’

For Sonya, the most important thing to do with her remaining time is spending time with people and “making sure that everybody knows they are loved and spreading as much happiness and joy and sunshine as possible”

In our urgent appeal this year you read about Sonya, affectionately known as ‘Sunshine Sonya’, a mum of two boys, 8 and 2 years, cared for by the team at Cranford Hospice.

Through the charity Race4Life, Sonya was able to fulfil her wish of a special weekend making memories with her family – treasuring every moment. A day out in Napier included her youngest’s first visit to the aquarium, and some pampering for Sonya, whilst her partner and her boys played mini golf. Rounding off the weekend with the Targa Rally, the Farmyard Zoo and visits to local cafes and restaurants.

“I just want to spend time with family. The whole thing when you get given a terminal diagnosis is if you want quality or quantity and my thing is quality, I just want more time and awesome things to do with the family to create good memories for the boys.”

You can follow Sonya’s journey on Facebook at facebook.com/SunshineSonyaVsCancer, or search “Our Love for Sonya”. Her posts are real, heart-warming and honest about her journey, and is a space for support, aroha and care.
