Kia Ora & Welcome to Cranford Hospice

At Cranford Hospice our vision is to help people make the most of living and dying within a compassionate community. We provide the best possible palliative care, education, support and advice to the people of Hawke’s Bay – from Mahia in the north, to Takapau in the south.

Our website is a place where you can find out more about the important role we play in our community.

Every day the team work round-the-clock to deliver care to around 200 patients and their whānau.  Our 24/7 phone line is also available for advice and support. Calls are from patients, families, and other health professionals such as GPs, District Nurses, Aged Residential Care facilities, and hospital staff. Please make sure you phone 06-878-7047 if you need advice or support.

Whatever has drawn you here, know that we are here to support you. Like our founder, Dame Cicely Saunders, said:

“You matter because you are you, and you matter till the end of your life. We will do whatever we can to not only help you die well, but to also help you live until you die.”

I couldn’t do without Cranford, because they are guiding me through the process and they have explained what will happen to me in the future. This has put my mind at rest. No matter what path my illness will take I am confident about the care that I’m going to receive, either at the hospice or somewhere else.

When it boils down to it, it’s not knowing that’s scary. But the beauty of Cranford is knowing that with their help, you can spend time on what’s important to you. For me that’s getting up, getting out of the house, going to work and spending time with my whānau.

We can’t change the outcome, but we can change the journey.  We work towards limiting the bad and enhancing the good.  And we try very hard to help people achieve their goals, especially regarding where they want to die.

When we had to start calling Cranford for help it was like welcoming family. And that’s what it was 100% of the way through, everyone was like family.
